Houndstooth’s Back With A Bite

1-25

What are a few tenets of minimalistic dressing partial to your Winter wardrobe? Much-touted classic colors of black and white? High octane selection of beige, camel, and golden tan? And if you’re me, being swayed by the equally infectious normcore trend generating sartorial pins from Stockholm to Seoul, you probably have a wide selection of wardrobe staples like drapey coats, button-down flannels, and cult-favorite skinny jeans.1-3311-47

With most trends tested from palazzo pants to leopard print midis (as I’m not stranger to the “life is trying things to see if they work” mantra),  I find myself eschewing the typical in favor of a much edgier look. Make no mistake, I take canny heed in monochromatic colors. Black, white, grey, beige, the entire color spectrum. However, it’s the varied texture, the au courant design, the luxe fabrics, and the crisp detailing that warrants my attention (and shopping galore). And when i came across this Black White Oversize Houndstooth Coat from Sheinside, with its stand collar and vintage style, I immediately envisioned my capsule wardrobe embracing a new gem with a stamp of approval.1-42 42-19

Like a lot of oversized coats in menswear-inspired silhouette, the outfit pairings are endless. To stylishly grace through bone-chilling weather in the Midwest, wear it with a statement sweater and a pair of grey skinnies for a seamlessly executed and polished look. For golden damsels in LA, drape over a warm-weather ensemble to flaunt that perfect transitional outfit. And to the Alexander Wang-clad, fashion month circuit-infused style mavens in New York, be perennially stylish as you always are and top it over your head-to-toe black ensemble à la shaggy mohair loose sweater (this Helmut Lang one is on my wish list) + leather jeans + towering booties.

With a spawning list of outerwear to try this season, have you found your newfound glory? 🙂

  2. You honestly have a great sense of style, Lena! I found a beautiful oversized coat over the weekend, tried it on and I thought that for once, I will be following the trend instead of being 10 years behind and hubby dearest hated it on me. I didn’t pick it up because he said it made me look silly. LOL!

    • Hi Shireen, thanks for your lovely comment love. I think the oversized coat trend is stylish yet tricky to pull off, and I’ve been belting mine and wearing tall boots with them to elongate my stature (given how overbearing it can be especially the below the knee duster ones). Either way I hope you find a coat that truly fits your need well!! Much love dear!

  3. Love the houndstooth print coat. I have a hard time resisting anything textured when it comes to clothing. I recently purchased a similar coat to yours. Thanks for the great styling tips by location. Very creative and helpful.

    • Thanks dear, I do love a vibrant ensemble too but grey/black are fantastic neutrals to work into a winter wardrobe as it’s getting quite wintery here! Hope to see some of your fashion concoctions in this color combo in the future! 🙂

    • Thanks Christie for stopping by! Yes I love this jacket it is the perfect blend of comfort and cool! I would say for jackets and coats it is advisable to get a size up. What’s one that you have your eyes on? 🙂

  4. Not sure what’s the IT piece on your look: if the sweater or the coat. The coat represents one of my favorite trends ever and the sweater has an embroidered feline, another trend I love since that Kenzo green sweater! Well, anyways, you look stunning Lena 🙂

    • Oh that’s awesome don’t you just love how warm and bundled up you feel in it? I jumped on this furry bandwagon after realizing that a lot of jackets have very small opening on top so this really helps ward off the chills around the neck. Thanks for your comment love, yes have a great week too! 🙂

  7. Hi Lena! You look amazing! You are so perfectly on trend with this outfit. And I adore that houndsooth jacket. I was at the outlets near me the other day and tried on a houndsooth wrap coat that looked divine. I ended up purchasing a Kate Spade coat in pink instead but I am thinking I might have to splurge on one during all of the great Black Friday sales. My sister and I have a slight obsession with coats LOL. Both of our husbands complain that our coats take up 75% of the coat closet leaving them with room for only 3-4. And now that places like Zara offer on-trend coats for reasonable prices, it is so easy to collect! Great style, as always my dear! xx Lauren http://www.ginnysclosetblog.com

    • Oh a Kate Spade coat in pink? How fun! I think we could use some color in our Winter wardrobe can’t we? And colors suit you well Lauren you always have the most classy and elegant ensembles! I’m looking forward to Black Friday sales but I can’t guarantee my wallet feels the same lol~ which reminds me I need to find a sleek duster coat this weekend, and you got that right, Zara does have the trendiest coats at great prices! I think I’m going down that road too with my jackets but hey got to keep ourselves warm and in style right? Have a great one Lauren!
