“Those cool seaside summer nights…not a moving cloud in sight…sandy beaches and fire flies…lost in the beauty of those glistening tides..”
One of the sentiments I resonate well with summer is warmth. The late afternoons basking in the sun’s glow, taking in ample doses of vitamin D while melting those residual remnants of winter. Word on the weather forecast street is that we will be embracing much warmer days (finally) in lieu of the polar vortex aftermath we’ve battled the past 3 months. And word on the fashion street is that the hot COLOR for summer is…hold your horses…the magnificent CORAL! Being a softer version of orange, coral can actually be worn by most people regardless of skin tone because its bluer hue makes it equally warm and cool.
Coral is an extremely versatile color that bodes well with most dark-toned colors like navy and black. Given it ranges in a large spectrum from orangey pink to soft terra cotta, it’s vastly popular in the accessories department to liven up any transitioning wardrobe. Think a coral beaded necklace with an LBD (little black dress) and kitten heels for you power girls in the corporate world. Or work your fashion mileage by pairing coral fitted jeans with a black and white striped T with some sky-high espadrilles. Which I’m surprised given my monstrous height I was able to walk in a straight line without weeble-wobbling; sadly, no can do with 4-inch pumps.
In my outfit today I wanted to bring out a tad bit of summer fun by pairing an H&M coral dress with a baby blue and navy tribal clutch, which was a present from my friend Mintza when she visited her family in Burundi. In case you haven’t picked this up in my previous posts, I’m an avid fan of trinkets like bejeweled gem bracelets and dangling two-toned earrings as they are surefire ways of hyping up any outfit. Add in a coral element to bring out a muted shade or compliment accent colors like aqua and yellow, you’ll soon realize that VOILÀ…you went from a style-what-now-sista to a full-on fashionista!
Now ain’t that just corally fun? 🙂
